Newly listed chemicals under the Stockholm Convention – Fact sheets

Newly listed chemicals under the Stockholm Convention

The Stockholm Convention is a multilateral environmental agreement (MEA) that aims to protect human health and the environment from persistent organic pollutants (POPs). POPs are chemicals that remain in the environment for long periods, accumulate in living organisms, travel long distances and have harmful effects on human health and the environment. When the Convention was first adopted, only twelve (12) POPs were listed. Since then, several POPs have been added to this MEA as new scientific evidence emerged and global priorities shifted. Please see our fact sheets on chemicals recently added to the Stockholm Convention.
