Digital Learning Hub Officially Launched under GEF ISLANDS 10279 & 10472
The Basel Convention Regional Centre for Training and Technology Transfer for the Caribbean (BCRC–Caribbean) has officially launched its Digital Learning Hub on October 21 2025, marking an important milestone in expanding access to environmental training and knowledge transfer across the region. This platform was developed under Output 1.2 of the GEF ISLANDS 10279 and 10472 Projects, with the support of the GEF, UNEP and FAO.
The Digital Learning Hub is available at https://bcrc-caribbean-digitallearning.moschorus.com/ where users can browse available courses, register, and begin learning immediately.
The platform was unveiled alongside the rollout of its first suite of online training courses, designed to strengthen regional capacity in chemicals and waste management through accessible, high-quality education. The platform currently hosts two (2) courses, with the featured course being the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) for chemical safety. The overarching goal is to build regional knowledge and capacity in chemicals and waste management.

The courses are designed for a wide range of learners, including:
- Sector-specific experts, in customs and excise, standards, agriculture
- Public sector personnel, in Ministries responsible for environment, agriculture, and education
- University students and academic researchers
- The general public interested in environmental issues.

Navigate to Courses

Select a Course and Click “Get Started” – Begin your chosen training module immediately.

Track Your Progress
Click on the profile or progress icon to view your achievements, including badges earned, completion status, and certificates.


Courses Currently Available
- Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants and Their Management in the Caribbean. This courseware is designed to deepen learners' understanding of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), particularly within the Caribbean context. It introduces the Convention, relevant tools and guidance, and practical insights from regional case studies to support the effective implementation of POPs management strategies. Participants will gain a stronger grasp of how international agreements translate into national action, promoting safer chemical use and disposal across the region.
- Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) This course provides a comprehensive overview of the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) for chemical safety, covering its purpose, key concepts, and standardized labelling elements. Learners will explore how GHS is defined and implemented across sectors and countries, supported by legal frameworks and real-world case studies. The final module focuses on GHS’s role in global chemical management, with a regional emphasis on the Caribbean. It highlights implementation strategies, stakeholder engagement, and training approaches to build national capacity, The GHS course consists of a navigation video, three learning modules, and a final assessment. It takes approximately 90 minutes to complete.

The BCRC–Caribbean is continuing to expand the Digital Learning Hub with additional courses covering a range of topics in chemicals and waste management, the environmentally sound management of End-of-Life Vehicles, Pesticides Registration, the Biopesticides Registration Manual, Good Labelling Practices for Pesticides and much more. Learners can look forward to new training opportunities that further support national and regional efforts toward achieving environmentally sound management of chemicals and wastes.
