The Basel Convention - Stockholm Convention Regional Centre for the Caribbean (BCRC-SCRC Caribbean) successfully hosted its 11th Annual Steering Committee Meeting on Wednesday January 28, 2026. The Steering Committee is a vital governance body comprised of national focal points from fifteen (15) Contracting Caribbean Parties to the Basel Convention.
This meeting sought to:
- Provide strategic guidance on the development and implementation of activities relevant to the regional role of the Centre.
- Strengthen the commitment of member Parties to the Centre's regional initiatives.
- Review the progress of the Centre's Business Plan and provide a forum for discussing project execution across the region.
- Garner interest in new funding mechanisms and initiate proposal development to address emerging environmental challenges.
By facilitating these high-level discussions, the Centre ensures that regional partners are well-equipped to meet their obligations under the chemicals and waste multilateral environmental agreements.
