The BCRC-Caribbean partnered with the Stockholm Convention Regional Centre for GRULAC Region in Brazil (SCRC-Brazil) to facilitate a regional virtual training programme entitled “Developing Strategies for National Chemicals Management: An International Training Programme Focusing on Preventative Chemicals Control.” This training programme took place over five days from August 25th to 29th, 2025. The target audience included representatives from the field of chemicals management in the Caribbean and Brazil.
This event marked the first formal event hosted between the SCRC Brazil and the BCRC-Caribbean. It also marked the first step under a new Memorandum of Understanding between these two Centres, reflecting our shared commitment to strengthening chemicals management capacity within the region.
The training programme explored strategies that Sweden and our regional partners have successfully used such as preventative approaches, hazard and risk identification and legislative tools, and considered how these can be adapted to specific national contexts in the Caribbean. The sessions provided opportunities for regional discussions and sharing of best practices. It allowed not only the sharing of knowledge from partners outside of the regional context, but also facilitated information sharing within Caribbean member parties, to support a stronger and more coordinated regional approach for chemicals management.
