GEF ISLANDS 10279 & 10472 Project Update


What is the GEF ISLANDS Programnme?

The Global Programme "Implementing Sustainable Low and Non-Chemical Development in Small Island Developing States (ISLANDS)" is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and supports Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to enter a safe chemical development pathway through the environmentally sound management (ESM) of chemicals and wastes. The ISLANDS Programme consists of thirty-three (33) Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and seven (7) Child projects across the Caribbean, Indian Ocean and Pacific Regions, with three (3) of those projects in the Caribbean region.

GEF 10279 and 10472

The timeline for the GEF 10279 and 10472 projects is six (6) years, with GEF 10279 being implemented since 2021 and ending in 2026 and GEF 10472 being implemented since2022 and ending in 2027.

The BCRC-Caribbean serves as Executing Agency for the both projects, with the 10279 Project being jointly implemented by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the 10472 Project being implemented by UNEP.

As at its 4th Annual Project Steering Committee Meeting in November 2025, key achievements for the projects for the last year are highlighted below.
