Suriname’s National Results Workshop for the Mercury Storage and Disposal Project in the Caribbean was held today. The focus of the workshop was on each country’s national action plan and the next steps to be taken in order to ensure successful execution of mercury management and possible ratification of the Minamata Convention. The mercury inventory was conducted with the assistance of intern Tiffany van Ravenswaay (on behalf of the BCRC-Caribbean and the Office of the President of the Republic of Suriname) and in strong collaboration with stakeholders from relevant sectors. Ms. Ravenswaay presented the findings of the inventory. Stakeholders in attendance included those from the relevant ministries, gold mining industry and the dental sector, among others.
