The BCRC-Caribbean is currently executing a regional project entitled “GEF 5558: Development and Implementation of a Sustainable Management Mechanism for Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in Eight (8) Caribbean Countries”. The project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and is being implemented through the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO).
At present, Belize lacks a formal mechanism for the sound management of empty pesticide containers. At the national level, the sound management of such waste is mostly unregulated and unmonitored. Consequently, open burning of such wastes is widely practiced thus contributing to the release of unintentional persistent organic pollutants (uPOPs). Pesticides are mostly used in the Belize agriculture sector. The objective of this activity is therefore to promote the Environmentally Sound Management (ESM) of these empty pesticide containers in Belize by improving current disposal practices that will ultimately lead to a reduction of UPOPs emissions.
In this regard, the BCRC-Caribbean is seeking to recruit suitably qualified and experienced Technical Expert(s) to provide services as it relates to the development of a National Empty Pesticide Containers Management Plan for Belize.
Open to: Submissions are open to National, Regional and International Consultant(s); International consultant(s) are required to partner with a national consultant(s) for conducting the national activities.
