The Development of Minamata Initial Assessments in the Caribbean (Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago) project aims to facilitate the ratification and implementation of the Minamata Convention on Mercury in each of the participating countries. Under this project, national inventories of mercury releases, assessments of the legal and institutional framework in each country and the identification of potentially mercury contaminated sites were conducted. In order to validate the results of these exercises, National Results Validation Workshops were held in each of the participating islands in October 2017. The summary report of these workshops is now available at the following link:

Thanks to all the national stakeholders who participated in these workshops and provided their input. It is anticipated that the National Minamata Initial Reports for each country will be finalised in the first quarter of 2018.
